Three offseason moves the Buccaneers should make

The three-time defending NFC South champion Buccaneers could face a serious challenge to their throne by the Falcons in 2024. Per Action Network, Atlanta (-120) is the favorite to win the division while Tampa Bay (+300) has the second-best odds.

Here are three additional moves Tampa should make as it looks to extend its run atop the NFC South.

Add an offensive lineman

Graham Barton, Tampa's first-round pick, was one of the top interior lineman prospects in this year's class. Second-year pro Cody Mauch struggled, but will likely have an opportunity to take a leap in production this upcoming season. Still, the Bucs should pursue a veteran lineman via free agency to bolster the depth behind their promising young linemen.

Tampa Bay's offensive line has struggled in recent years, contributing to the league's worst rushing attack in 2022 and 2023. Talent remains on the free-agent market, including Dalton Risner and David Bakhtiari. The Bucs did an excellent job of retaining their key free agents, but it would be a shame if that work was undone by an inadequate offensive line.

Restructure contracts of DL Vita Vea, OL Tristan Wirfs

Vea and Wirfs have been pillars in the Bucs' current streak of four consecutive playoff appearances, and they could help extend the franchise's string of success by restructuring their contracts. The two former Pro Bowlers are set to count for a combined $39.6 million against the cap in 2024. Tampa only has $390,599 in space but could free up $23.6 million with restructures to Vea's and Wirfs' contracts. That money could be put to good use, like adding an offensive lineman and another weapon for quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Sign wide receiver Hunter Renfrow

The former Raider is the best wideout remaining on the market and would be a perfect slot receiver in 11 personnel with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin manning the outside. According to data from Pro Football Focus, Renfrow lined up in the slot on a career-high 91.5 percent of his pass snaps in 2023. For his career, his rate of being the slot receiver sits at 73 percent. Injuries have curtailed his past two seasons, but in 2021, he had 103 receptions, 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns. When healthy, Renfrow can be a dangerous weapon.
